Τίτλος : Ολυμπιακοί αυτοσχεδιασμοί [Olympic Doodling].

Ολυμπιακοί αυτοσχεδιασμοί είναι ο τίτλος του έργου που θα παρουσιάσω φέτος στο Πεκίνο. Πρωταγωνιστές στους αυτοσχεδιασμούς αυτούς είναι οι Σιωπηλοί.
Οι Σιωπηλοί είναι αυθόρμητα σκίτσα που μου βγαίνουν όταν βρίσκομαι στην ενδιάμεση περίοδο νοητής άθλησης και ευδαιμονίας που προηγείται κάποιας καλλιτεχνικής πράξης, εκεί, όπου ανοίγουν οι δυνατότητες και παίζονται οι πιθανότητες πριν να καταρρεύσουν στην διάσταση της μορφής.
Οι Σιωπηλοί κατοικούν στο πεδίο της ‘ηρωϊκής’ μου απουσίας πίσω από την ταπεινή μου παρουσία στα κοινά. Είναι αυτό που είναι.
Παράλληλα με την έκθεση, στο Πεκίνο, θα γίνει ένα συμπόσιο με τίτλο Το Ολυμπιακό Πνεύμα και η καλλιτεχνική αναζήτηση
όπου θα προσπαθήσω να συνδέσω κάθετα το ολυμπιακό γεγονός με την Αρχή της Αναγέννησης όπως την βρίσκουμε στους πανάρχαιους αθλητικούς αγώνες της Αρκαδίας στο Λύκαιον Όρος τον 14α π.χ. όπου ο πρωταθλητής με μια πράξη αυθυπέρβασης πέθαινε σαν θνητός και αναγεννιόταν σαν Αθάνατος παρασέρνοντας και όλη την φύση στην αναγέννηση. Αυτό ήταν το μήνυμα του ολυμπιακού μου μνημείου Κύπελο 2004, στο Παλαιό Φάληρο, που το σχήμα του δημιουργήθηκε μέσα από τη μαθηματική δομή της λέξης ΧΡΥΣΑΛΛΙΣ.

Τίτλος : MY WORLD, YOUR WORLD, OUR WORLD….

The main idea of this painting is the belief that the whole world should be unified with all the people and nations living in peace and happiness.
In a sweeping glance on the picture, we see the world divided in different shapes. Not only the forms but also the colors are divided with a jerky movement. In this way, I want to express the differences that really exist between people, as well as the boundaries between the countries.
I want to override these differences and point out the social, cultural needs of human being all over the world, as well as the demand of common improvement. The many different colors which mingle or gradually the one color replaces the other represents the peaceful coexistence and collaboration.
The vivid colors that dominate on the painting is a wish for joy and happiness.
The sun and the moon in the two sides symbolize that, while in one part of the world is day on other part is night.
The painting is full of symbols. The flying pigeon in the centre of the picture and the giving hands bring, the hope for peace. The five colored circles symbolize the five Olymbic rings but also the five continents.
Branches of olive trees are spread in the five continents. Olive tree the symbol of peace as well as the Olympic games winners’ award.

Τίτλος : THE TWELVE OLYMPIAN GODS ( φωτό πάνω )

“THE TWELVE OLYMPIAN GODS” is a study on the part and the whole. It is a painting created by means of a cerebral procedure; the aesthetic result is a consequence of organization and preset principles.

Three different images try to coexist and trace their limits; the realistic representation of the forms (the nine parts of the work), the schematic representation of other forms (the whole work of art) and the abstract (the colored elements of the work of art). The work itself is a part of a group of works which conflict with the reasoning of their organization showing a way of thinking. This is obvious in the work since it was first organized as a whole and was then worked separately in each part. Finally an element in the last part introduces a real space with the construction of an open door and a luminous globe in it. There’s a reference to the third dimension permeating the whole procedure through the sizes and the relations between the colors and the conflicts of its elements. This open door is an introduction to the real world making the two-dimensional surface of the rest of the work more observable, separating the representation from the real world and placing the whole material in it, making it now equal to every object of the real world. The work constitutes a part of the “whole” of the world.

The Olympian Gods are a whole, consisting of twelve members, each of which forms its personality based on some specific elements. The concerns of their society, apart from the relations and the conflicts between them, are related to the world of the humans, our real world. The spirit, so typical of the Olympian Gods, is passing to the real world today through the door the Olympic Games have left open. It is the door the Gods opened to communicate with us. The need of their existence is the need of man to discover his limits.

The people who sat for this piece of work are my students, people with special needs. They are like Gods themselves, living in their real world, but for these Gods it’s our obligation to create a door in order to communicate with them. I thank them for all the colors…

Τίτλος : MARATHON RUNNERS ( run louis run)

Marathon Runners are athletes taking part in the most difficult sport running the traditional distance between Marathon and Athens, in Greece.
It is the distance between the village of Marathon and Athens run by Fidippidis in 490 B.C. in his attempt to inform the citizens of Athens of the Greek victory over the Persians. Fidippidis as soon as he arrived exhausted in Athens managed to just say the words “We won” and immediately collapsed dead!
The rough painted surface on top represents the hard nature of the sport.
It also represents the hardships people face today in their lives.
In the year 1896.
Louis a Creek athlete was the first Olympic Marathon winner in the first modern Athens Olympic games in Greece
He was a farmer from a small village and managed to win the gold medal running the Marathon and becoming a hero of modern Greece.

3rd Beijing Biennale 2008: ” Ribbon Girl” ( 2005)/ vinavyl glue & oil pastel on canvas 130×130cm

Ο Δημήτρης Γρατσίας, τακτικός Καθηγητής Βασικού Σχεδίου στο Τμήμα Διακοσμητικής & Σχεδιασμού του Τεχνολογικού Εκπαιδευτικού Ιδρύματος Αθήνας (1977-2004),αποφοίτησε από την Ανωτάτη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών της Αθήνας με Διπλώματα Ζωγραφικής, Διακοσμητικής & Σκηνογραφίας καθώς και Θεωρητικών & Ιστορικών Σπουδών και συνέχισε με σπουδές Κεραμικής στο Camden Arts Centre του Λονδίνου. Έχει εκθέσει τη δουλειά του σε Εθνικές & Ομαδικές εκθέσεις στην Ελλάδα, σε Ατομικές εκθέσεις στην Ελλάδα και Λονδίνο καθώς και σε Διεθνείς εκθέσεις σε πολλές χώρες της ΕΕ όπως επίσης ΗΠΑ, Ρωσία, Ισλανδία, Κίνα και Αργεντινή. Tιμήθηκε με πολλές διακρίσεις, με πλεον πρόσφατη στην 6η Τριενάλε της Πολωνίας για Ζωγραφική (2006).

Βασιλική Σοφρά. 3η Μπιενάλε Πεκίνου 2008

As you Know this August in Greece, there was a huge ecological destruction. About 1.900.000 miles of woodland and cultivation growth was burnt. Also, people, animals and birds were the hapless victims of this catastrophe. Big and unique ecosystems are lost and it will take many years to recover and likely never some of them could be as before. In such a hell, there were many people, professional firemen or simple people who risked and some did give their own lives in order to save as more as possible. They have done cyclopean efforts to burn out the fire whenever it was blew into. For this, I believe that they are really the champions of the real life. Because they transcend their own selves trying to save the other’s lives, the trees, the animals, to save Life generally, now and in the future, by risking and unfortunately many of them by sacrificing their own lives!
The art works that I suggest show these people fighting as angels through the hell against the negative forces to save the paradise on the earth.

Ολυμπιακό παραμύθι
( 180 Χ 150 cm, λάδια και collage σε καμβά )
Το έργο αυτό εξυμνεί τα χρώματα και τον αθλητισμό,υπενθυμίζει το πέρασμα του Χρόνου που ενώνει τις γενιές,παρουσιάζει τον κόσμο σαν ένα παραμύθι,με χρώματα και ύφος ναϊφ που μοιάζει να παραπέμπει σε μια υφήλιο ιδανική όπου όλες οι φυλές όλες οι ηλικίες όλες οι κοινωνικές τάξεις είναι ίσες,όπου τα ιδανικά είναι ακόμα Υψηλά όπως εκείνα των Ολυμπιακών αγώνων.

Η ζωγραφική με το collage με προσέλκυσε από τα πρώτα κιόλας βήματα της καλλιτεχνικής μου καριέρας.Προσπαθώ να “παντρέψω” αρμονικά το πάθος μου για τη Φωτογραφία και το θέατρο με την βαθύτατη ανάγκη μου για ζωγραφική.
Απαθανατίζοντας με τη φωτογραφική μηχανή ιδαίτερες στιγμές οδηγούμαι στη συνέχεια στη δημιουργία πινάκων που αποτελούνται από φανταστικές εικόνες οι οποίες περιβάλουν ή πλαισιώνουν τις συγκεκριμένες φωτογραφίες,αυτές λοιπόν,είτε παίζουν τον πρωταγωνιστικό ρόλο στα έργα μου,είτε είναι κίνητρο για το ξεκίνημα μιας νέας ιδέας.
Σε γενικές γραμμές,τα θέματα που συνήθως μου δίνουν το έναυσμα για τη δημιουργία ενός καινούριου έργου είναι αυτά που με εμπνέουν να σχολιάσω τα κοινωνικά ή υπαρξιακά προβλήματα και αυτά που με ωθούν να καταστήσω ορατές τις προσωπικές μου εμπειρίες τις οποίες βιώνω ταξιδεύοντας.
Τα καλλιτεχνικά ρεύματα που τελικά σχετίζονται με τους πίνακές μου θα έλεγα ότι είναι μία μίξη από σουρεαλισμό και αφηρημένο εξπρεσιονισμό σε συνδιασμό με φουτουριστικά και pop στοιχεία.
